About

Federica Piccirilli graduated with a Master degree in Physics from the University of Rome “Sapienza.” Subsequently, in 2012, she completed her Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Trieste. Her doctoral research focused on implementing high-pressure infrared (IR) techniques at the SISSI infrared beamline of Elettra Sincrotrone, specifically applied to biophysical studies.

Between 2012 and 2015, she worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Molecular Biophysics Group of the University of Palermo, under the guidance of Professor Maurizio Leone. During this period, her research was primarily dedicated to combining various techniques, including fluorescence, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), IR, and Raman spectroscopy, to investigate systems of biophysical interest. From 2017 to 2023, Federica Piccirilli held the position of Postdoctoral Researcher at the SISSI infrared beamline of Elettra Sincrotrone, initially at the Materials Science branch of CNR-IOM and later at the Life Science branch of Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste.

From July 2023 she is Researcher at Area Science Park. Her research activities revolve around advanced characterization using cutting edge IR spectroscopy and microscopy techniques for the analysis of biological systems, ranging from the micro to the nanoscale. She has authored around 40 scientific papers.
