About

After obtaining a three-year degree in Biological Sciences and a master’s degree in Functional Genomics (University of Trieste), Giuditta De Lorenzo completes a PhD in Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology (University of Nova Gorica) held at the ICGEB.

Giuditta’s field of research is molecular virology, an interest born studying rotavirus during her PhD and matured during the six years spent as a researcher at the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR). At the CVR, she first worked on the development and the preclinical evaluation of a Zika virus (ZIKV) candidate vaccine and then she focused on the impact of the emerging mutations in SARS-CoV-2 variants.

As a research fellow at the RIT Institute, Giuditta is studying the interaction between viruses and infected host cells, in particular the synergy between two cellular pathways (UPR and PRR) in mounting an antiviral response.
