About

Loredana Casalis is a Biophysicist/Nanotechnologist working at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste. She is the head of the NanoInnovation Laboratory, specialized in Atomic Force Microscopy and focused on the role of cell/tissue mechanobiology in health and diseases and on cell membranes biophysics, with emphasis on the development of model membrane systems to study nanoparticles (e.g. extracellular vesicles, pathogens)-cell fusion.

She obtained her PhD in Condensed Matter Physics from University of Trieste. Then she spent two years at Princeton University, Chemistry Dept., where she studied molecular self-assembling at the nanoscale for advanced disease diagnostics.

She has been (co-)director of several biophysics/nanomedicine schools in Italy and in African countries. She supervised 25 PhD students and several undergraduate students from different background, and currently member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Society for Pure and Applied Biophysics (SIBPA).
