Dr. Ornella Affinito works at the Laboratory of Multi-omics AREA SUD (LAAS), a detached section of Area Science Park within the University of Salerno. She got her PhD in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics at the University of Naples Federico II in 2016. Her research projects are mainly oriented to the medical and translational aspect and focused on epigenetic, genetic and regulative mechanisms underlying neoplastic diseases. She leverages statistical and computational approaches to analyze and integrate multi-omics data derived both from microarrays and next-generation sequencing platforms.
Her main research objectives include the identification of novel prognostic and diagnostic biomarkers, the evaluation of their clinical utility, the dissection of genomic heterogeneity, and the tracking of genomic alterations during disease progression. Her studies also gained several awards in the field of medical research. She also was guest lecture of Pathology at Divine Word University (Papua Nuova Guinea) and lecture of Medical Statistics at University of Naples Federico II.
