As part of the PRP@CERIC project, a new laboratory operating at Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3) containment is being established and equipped with the necessary instrumentation for conducting research and development on level-3 risk pathogens with pandemic potential. Strict safety measures will be in place to ensure maximal operator protection and high-level containment.
The BSL3 facility will be equipped with two laboratories for independent in vitro handling of pathogens in biohazard cabinets and with one laboratory for in vivo experimentation with small-size animals. Facilities for biobanking of isolates and infected material as well as reference materials for the development of standards.
The laboratory incorporates a state-of-the-art high-throughput screening (HTS) imaging facility to offer a comprehensive platform for functional screens and high-throughput screening of potential drug candidates, antimicrobial agents, and other bioactive molecules, facilitating efficient and reliable drug discovery and research endeavours in a controlled biosafety environment. The HTS-BSL3 will dialogue with the external HTS-BSL2 to offer a full range of tools for optimal configuration of the assay and analysis of output.
📍 The “Biosafety Level 3 Facility” is located at ICGEB laboratories in Area Science Park.
