Antiviral Drug Discovery

Our expertise in antiviral drug discovery includes high-throughput screening to evaluate the antiviral activity of drug candidate libraries, as well as detailed studies to elucidate the mechanisms of action of these compounds. This includes understanding how drugs inhibit viral replication, entry, and the role of host factors in viral pathogenesis

📍 The antiviral drug discovery services are provided by ICGEB laboratories in Area Science Park.

Screenings

Application of high-throughput methods to test the antiviral activity of libraries of drug candidates.

Mechanism of Action Identification

Detailed studies to understand how drugs inhibit viral replication and how viruses respond to these treatments. I.e. virus replication (viral protease and polymerase inhibitors), entry (neutralizing antibodies or other inhibitors), host factors essential for virus replication and pathogenesis (protease inhibitors, receptor mimetics). A specialty is the development of host-directed therapeutics (HDTs) to obtain broad host-range drugs for first-line use.

Antimicrobial resistance

In-depth assessment of drug resistance acquisition in high-consequence viruses by Next Generation Sequencing and phenotypic characterization in vitro.
