Pandemic Preparedness Conference: Key Facts & Video Highlights

The International Scientific Conference “Pandemic preparedness: Achievements, current challenges, and new frontiers”, held from November 11 to 13, 2024, at the Savoia Excelsior Palace Hotel in Trieste, gathered internationally renowned scientists to promote knowledge sharing and multidisciplinary cooperation, aimed at preventing and addressing potential epidemic risks from known and emerging viruses. Organized by Area Science Park and International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology – ICGEB, the conference was part of the PRP@CERIC project, funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
The event featured 10 thematic sessions covering key aspects of pandemic preparedness. It saw the participation of 160 attendees, with a majority of Italian and European researchers, as well as experts from the United States, Japan, and other countries. The Conference had strong female representation, indeed, 56% of participants were women.
13 internationally acclaimed invited speakers, along with 42 speakers, discussed diagnostics, epidemiology, surveillance, drug discovery, and preventive approaches. Their contributions highlighted the importance of a multidisciplinary and international collaboration to collectively address the challenges of (re)emerging infectious diseases.
The conference also celebrated excellence in research! Among the presented posters, 3 received the Best Poster Award, sponsored by BioSan.
