Seminar of Prof. Andrey Alexeyenko on Network-Based Analysis of Biological Data

The seminar “Mining Biological Intelligence from Cells: a Network-Based Approach”, held on October 3, 2025, at Area Science Park in Trieste, was delivered by Prof. Andrey Alexeyenko, from the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Karolinska Institutet and the Science for Life Laboratory in Stockholm.
The event, hosted in the Conference Hall of the Padriciano Campus, saw an engaged audience of researchers, students, and professionals. Participants followed with great interest Prof. Alexeyenko’s presentation on cutting-edge network-based approaches to explore biological intelligence at the cellular level.
During his talk, Prof. Alexeyenko illustrated how biological network analysis can effectively address the challenges of cancer heterogeneity and the vast complexity of omics data. His team’s methodology transforms large-scale datasets into a compact and biologically meaningful “pathway dimension,” enhancing the discovery of cancer driver genes and biomarkers predictive of therapeutic response.
Attendees also had the opportunity to explore EviNet and EviMark, the interactive web resources developed by Alexeyenko’s group to facilitate network-assisted analysis and interpretation of omics data.
The morning concluded with an engaging Q&A session and discussion on future research perspectives, followed by visits to the ICGEB, the LAGE laboratories and the Data Center of Area Science Park at the Basovizza Campus.
The seminar was organized within the PRP@CERIC project, where Prof. Alexeyenko serves as External Technical Supervisor (ETS).
